FAQ

Waxing FAQs in Richmond, VA

Answers to what clients ask most before, during, and after a visit. Don't see your question? Call the studio and we'll walk you through it.

+How do I book an appointment?
Fill out the quick booking form on this page, it only takes a minute, or email appointment@waxingrichmondva.us. Most requests are confirmed the same day.
+How long should hair be before waxing?
About a quarter inch, roughly two to three weeks of growth for most areas. Too short and the wax can't grip; too long and the service takes longer than it needs to.
+Does waxing hurt?
There's brief discomfort as hair is removed, but most clients say it's milder than expected and adapt within the first couple of visits. We adjust technique for sensitive skin on request.
+How far in advance should I book?
We keep the calendar open for walk-up demand and same-week bookings, though weekends and evenings fill faster, so a few days' notice is usually enough.
+What should I avoid before an appointment?
Skip heavy lotion, sunscreen, or makeup on the treatment area, and avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 24 hours beforehand.
+Can I get waxed on my period?
Yes, though skin can be more sensitive around this time. Let your technician know so they can adjust pacing and pressure.
+How often should I schedule maintenance visits?
Most areas fall on a four to six week cycle. Richmond's humid summers can speed up visible regrowth slightly, so some clients book closer to four weeks in peak season.
+Do you wax men?
Yes, see Men's Waxing for services including male Brazilian and chest waxing, with technique adjusted for coarser hair and different skin sensitivity.
+What's the difference between hard wax and soft wax?
Hard wax hardens and is lifted off without strips, working well on coarser hair and sensitive areas. Soft strip wax covers larger areas faster and suits finer hair.
+How do I prevent ingrown hairs after waxing?
Gentle exfoliation starting two days after your appointment, loose breathable clothing for the first 24 hours, and avoiding hot showers or heavy lotion right after all help.
+Is waxing safe during pregnancy?
Generally yes, though skin can be more sensitive. We recommend checking with your provider first and letting us know so we can adjust the session.
+What if I'm using retinol or Accutane?
These can thin the skin and increase the risk of tearing during waxing. Tell us what you're using, and we may recommend sugaring or threading instead, or a waiting period after stopping.
+What's the difference between waxing and threading?
Waxing removes hair from larger areas using warm wax pulled against the growth direction. Threading uses a twisted cotton thread for precise, hair-by-hair removal, most common on eyebrows and facial hair.
+Is waxing better than shaving?
Waxing removes hair from the root, so regrowth is slower and finer than shaving, and it avoids razor bumps and stubble. Shaving is faster and cheaper per session but needs more frequent upkeep.
+How much does waxing typically cost?
Pricing varies by treatment area and hair density. The figures on our Pricing page are general industry reference ranges, not an exact quote, your provider confirms the final price before your visit.
